DAVIDSON, N.C. – The William & Mary volleyball team fell to Davidson, 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-23), to conclude the Wildcat Classic on Saturday evening. The Wildcats (2-1) produced a .302 attack percentage to down the Tribe (0-3) in straight sets.

After dropping the first set, the Tribe nearly erased an eight-point deficit in the second. Late in game two, W&M ignited a 4-0 run behind a pair of Claire Farrell kills and Wildcat errors to trim the Davidson advantage to 22-21. Regardless, the Wildcats went on a 3-1 run out of a timeout to take the 2-0 match lead.

The Green and Gold attempted to overcome a five-point deficit in the third set. After trailing 19-15, W&M rode the serve of Madeleine Bertz for a 5-0 spurt, taking a 20-19 lead. Junior Katie Kemp fed sophomore Julia Brown for a kill to maintain the one-point edge, 23-22.

Nonetheless, Davidson's Cierra Cockrell hammered a kill, Mason Rooney served an ace and the Tribe committed an attack error to cut the rally short.

Rookie Madeleine Bertz was named to the All-Tournament Team as she finished the weekend with 23 kills on a .378 hitting efficiency, eight blocks and five aces. Farrell also had a solid start to her collegiate career after totaling a team-high 36 kills. Junior Autumn Brenner also capped the tournament with an average of 7.67 assists per set and 23 digs.

Inside the Numbers
- The Wildcats nailed just four more kills than the Tribe, 39-to-35.
- Neither team scored much off blocks as W&M held a slime 3-to-2 edge.
- The biggest difference occurred in attack errors with the Tribe committing 24, compared to Davidson's 10.

Quotable
"I was really proud of the battle our girls brought against Central Arkansas. They ended up making more plays than us at the end, but our tem showed incredible resiliency and a willingness to step up in the moment. Casey Foote brought new life into us in set four, it was good to see her play well. And Madeleine Bertz took a big set-ending swing at the end of set four to force game five.

"Unfortunately, we couldn't match the intensity of our game against Central Arkansas when we played later against Davidson. Tonight was a big lesson in the value of preparation and execution. We're focused on getting better from the challenges this weekend presented and look forward to putting an even better product on the floor next weekend." - head coach Tim Doyle
